“At that time Jesus exclaimed: “I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.” ~ Matthew 11:25
In today’s Gospel, Jesus makes it clear that his mission is to bring us to know and love God the Father. He reveals that he is the mediator, the link in the relationship between the Father and his children. Jesus mentions two kinds of people. The first kind is people of power, who, blinded by pride and filled with self-assurance, shut others out of their circle and close their hearts and minds to the Father’s message. The second group is the childlike – the ones unable to help themselves and those not important in the world’s eyes. They come to Christ empty-handed and are open and ready to be filled with God’s truth.
Children, from the moment of birth, depend on relationships with others. They need help with the most basic things – not only food and comfort, but also help in fostering intellectual growth and practical life skills. Children can’t help but be humble and honest. They speak plainly about what they need and hope for.
Jesus’ love for the Father encourages us to have an honest and open communication with God. Through our heart-to-heart conversation with him, our desire to learn and practice truths taught by Christ in Sacred Scripture, and being open to the love of God for us, we grow in faith and understanding of God’s love.
Prayer:
Thank you, Lord Jesus, for showing me the love of the Father and inviting me to be part of the family of God. I pray for the grace of humility and increased confidence in you.
Call to Action:
Cultivate a deeper relationship with God the Father. Consider how the Lord is revealing himself to you: through personal prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, through meditation with Sacred Scripture, and in holy wholesome relationships with others. How will you respond?
