Strive for Spiritual Gifts

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth; for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” ~ John 16:13

The Holy Spirit enables us to hear from God. Jesus is preparing the apostles to receive the power from on high, the Holy Spirit.   Jesus assured them that everything that is mine the Holy Spirit will declare to you.

Drenched In the Spirit

We are to be drenched in the spirit so that we can have the ability to hear from God, have authority over sin in our life and the zeal to share the gospel. Jesus died so that he could send us the comforter, the gentle leader, and the driving force of wisdom in our lives. The Holy Spirit that was active in the lives of the apostles can become just as real to us today.

The Soul of The Church

Pope Leo XIII wrote an encyclical on the Holy Spirit in 1901 and dedicated a whole century to the Holy Spirit.  He declared the church is the body of Christ and the Holy Spirit is the soul of the church. Saint John Paul II wrote in his encyclical entitled On the Holy Spirit in the Life of the Church and World, “What is ‘hard he softens,’ what is ‘frozen he warms,’ what is ‘wayward he sets anew’ on the paths of salvation.”

Come Holy Spirit, drench us in your love, fill our hearts with a fiery passion to pray and to prophecy with the power of the Holy Spirit.  Make alive in us your commands to pursue love and strive for the spiritual gifts to set the world ablaze with your love and truth.

Call to Action:

Today, take some time to ask someone if they would like you to pray for them.  Be God’s hands and feet, guided by the Holy Spirit, and speak the spirit of truth.
