All You Need is Love

“This I command you, to love one another” ~ John 15:17

Today’s Gospel tells us, as the Father has loved me, so have I loved you; abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.

We are all witnessing acts of hatred in our own state, country, and in the world. How do we abide by the commandment to love one another? Jesus wants us to have a loving heart and love for each other even when it is hard.

Faith is how I navigate my life and my reaction to all that is occurring around me. Jesus, I trust in You, and I continue to love one another despite the challenges of differing opinions. Jesus, I trust in You, that you are protecting us from the evil one and that YOUR will be done.

Find Joy

These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full. During a time of unrest, take time to stay plugged into the things and activities that fill your heart and keep you whole. Say the rosary. Go to Mass. Adoration may be a place for you to find inner peace. Plant a flower garden, take in nature, enjoy your loved ones, and breathe. Be aware not to succumb to the things that you cannot control but focus on the things that you can. In the end, all we can control is how we respond. Respond with prayer, trust in Jesus, and love for one another.

A Prayer for World Peace
(a prayer poem for peace on earth and world unity)

Dear Father of all,
Help us to see the world through your eyes, without dividing lines,
To see just land and water, mountains, trees and skies. Help us to lay aside our class and skin, our background and race,
To know our shared humanity, to see a brother or sister in every face.
Help us to wear forgiveness, to lay down our pride and pain,
To seek first to understand, Lord may peace and reconciliation reign.
Help us to feel your compassion so we can freely forgive.
May we weave new threads of grace and cause seeds of hope to live.

Help us to play our own small part, with acts of kindness and of care.
May we arise as your children and seek out what is just and fair.
Cause us to make new bonds of trust with neighbors near and far,
And so to fashion a world where peace comes to Earth in this hour.
