“And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment
of what was spoken to her by the Lord.” ~ Luke 1:45
On today’s Feast of the Visitation, Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth. As John leaped in her womb, Elizabeth received the Holy Spirit, bursting forth in wonder and awe. “Blessed are you who believed that what was spoken to you by the Lord would be fulfilled.”
She Believed
Mary responds with a beautiful Magnificat, overflowing with the spirit, pouring forth all that God has done. She who accepted God’s will is used as the instrument for Him to deliver the promise of salvation and redemption. Others were used before, and they trusted in God. Of course, they believed, but none as completely as Mary. With the most profound trust, she surrendered herself so that the divine Word would be fulfilled through her.
What about Us?
In our globally connected world with non-stop news and social media comparison, many people today struggle with life decisions. Some allow fear of an unknown future to paralyze their actions. Others fret over potentially making the wrong choices. Even the faithful overthink where God might be calling them.
What keeps us from believing as Mary believed? What promises are we waiting for? Do we trust that they will be fulfilled, or do we hold the tiniest doubt in our hearts, minds, and thoughts?
That Mary believed the Lord’s promises to her was a blessing. How wonderful our life can be if we allow ourselves to magnify God’s will through our daily service.
Prayer
Come, Holy Spirit, help us to believe as Mary did and surrender our lives to your perfect will.
Call to Action
Today, stop overthinking the decision that faces you. Instead, take a breath, make a choice, and offer it to God, trusting He will lead you no matter the outcome.
