When Jesus turned and saw them following, he said to them,
“What are you looking for?” They said to him, “Rabbi” (which translated means Teacher),
“where are you staying?” He said to them, “Come and see.” ~ John 1:38-39a
As I left the house in a rush yesterday, running behind, as usual, I was overcome with an unexpected gift.
A stunning light show that only my Beloved could provide for me. I was so overcome by the radiance of beauty right in my backyard that I stopped, turned back into the house, and yelled for my family, “you have got to come and see this!”
A Pondering Heart
Throughout the entire day, I continued to unwrap in my heart the gift I was given that morning. So many things came to mind as I pondered what God had given me and what this great morning star was sent to guide me towards.
Without even realizing it at the time, I was being drawn into the mystery of the Incarnation and Nativity.
Awe & Wonder
With barely more than 24 hours since I saw this sight, I am continuing to ponder the Beauty I was given, not just yesterday morning but over 2000 years ago. Then, the shining glory of the Lord terrified the shepherds. What did that glory look like? Was it like a star that led the Wiseman to Jesus? Was it like the sun, the star so bright we can’t look upon it with human eyes, announcing God’s Son was here? The morning sun stopped me in my tracks. Had this bright light begun to shine at night, would I, too, have been terrified like the shepherds?
As we continue to celebrate the great feast of Christmas, may we remember that we have been given hearts that search for Truth. The shepherds had them all those years ago, and their reward was the Christ Child. So what are you looking for? May this be a question you ponder in your heart this new year, and may your eyes and ears be open to hearing His voice telling you, “Come and see.”
Prayer
Jesus, you give us so much to ponder, so much to draw us into your love. May I always be filled with childlike awe and wonder that all the ways you reveal yourself to me never go unnoticed or unreceived. Amen.
Call to Action
Pray for the grace to have your eyes, ears, and hearts open to God’s presence, and praise and glorify Him for all He has done.
