By Kathleen Billings
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Then I said, “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”
But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am only a youth’;
for to all to whom I send you you shall go, and whatever I command you you shall speak. ~ Jeremiah 1:5-7
Follow the Path
Intentionally and wholeheartedly following the path God presents us can often be daunting. Instead of moving forward in faith with full steam, our natural inclination might be to question the calling. I am too young, too old, too broke, too busy – I’m not smart enough, not wise enough, not worthy -the list of reasons goes on and on. We wonder – why me? Why did God entrust this specific mission to me? And yet today’s scripture reminds us that before we were even born God had a plan for each of us. We were created for a specific reason with our unique gifts and flaws -all our beauty and all our messy. With each cross carried and each summit reached, God forms us for the mission He entrusts to us. It is all part of His provision not only for our lives but for each life our lives touch. Every moment of our lives prepares us for the mission God appoints us. Each person he brings into our life, each acquaintance on our path, are all there to mold and equip us to go where God sends us.
God will Equip Us
God does not call the equipped; He equips those whom he calls.
My 15-year-old son David has spent a large portion of his summer developing a website called MISSION POSSIBLE. The website’s goal is to provide resources to help young men discern their calling in life, whether as a husband and father, a priest, religious brother, or consecrated celibate. Whatever mission God has sent you on, it is a MISSION POSSIBLE if you walk forward one step at a time in faith, trusting that His will is where you will be fulfilled and find ultimate joy.
Lord, please help me to fulfill the mission you have created me for faithfully. Amen.
Call to Action
Reflect today on what God is calling you to do right now in your life. What is the mission he has entrusted to you and how faithfully are you responding to God’s invitation?

Wonderful! Thank you!
Psalm 139 is my favorite Psalm and played a big part in me developing my Born Again self. I had never read this passage from Jeremiah, which confirms our purpose! Thank you Kathleen for your beautiful insite!
Kathleen, my love, I am honored and humbled that our omnibenevolent Lord blessed me with you as my wife.
