And his mother and his brothers came; and standing outside they sent to him and called him. And a crowd was sitting about him; and they said to him, “Your mother and your brothers are outside, asking for you.” And he replied, “Who are my mother and my brothers?” And looking around on those who sat about him, he said, “Here are my mother and my brothers! Whoever does the will of God is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

It cannot be helped considering the reflection written by Dr. Mary Healy in this lesson, when meditating on the scripture. Dr. Healy’s refection opened my eyes to see the generosity Our Lord extends to us in becoming His adopted family in these verses. “Anyone who does the Will of God” is His family! What a gift God gives us! The scripture is, also, so complimented by the point in the reflection that depicts Our Blessed Mother sharing Our Lord Jesus with us. While there must have been the painful sorrow in what Our Blessed Mother gives in this act of love, we know that She has the true joy of following God’s Will in Her surrender.
The focus of my meditation on the scripture today was Mary and Our Lord’s relatives with Her. As She stood outside the house with the crowd surrounding Jesus, She called out to Him. It reminds me of how many times we can call out to Mary for Her to pray for us and help us. She calls out to Jesus for us when we feel lost in the crowd around us or feel distance between us and our God. Nothing can penetrate to break our connection with Jesus, when we are faithful…….There is no problem too great, no crowd of people to big, to prevent us from reaching Him, especially, when we have such a beautiful Blessed Mother to make the call out to Him for us!
