Share the Love

Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Matthew 28:19

Share the love! Easier said than done, right? I used to think so. Until recently, I wouldn’t have opened my mouth about my faith. Since I awakened in my faith, God has given me many graced opportunities to share His love, mainly through my journey with breast cancer.

The waiting room in our cancer center has a dozen chairs. I always sit directly in front of the doors so I can give a big smile to whoever enters. If that seat is taken, I intentionally take a position next to someone else so that we can talk.

One day in February, “my” seat was taken, but I felt the Holy Spirit direct me to sit near a specific woman. When the doctor entered, she looked at us and said, “Look, two mothers of the brides!” I turned to the other woman with joy. “You have a daughter getting married, too?”

We compared notes on wedding plans, and I could see that this woman was struggling with her treatment. Before I knew it, I was offering to help plan her daughter’s wedding! She looked relieved at my offer, and I knew it was the right thing to do. Later in an email, I evangelized about my faith and said that it was God’s plan for us to meet. I was going out on a limb, but that is our call, right? I was pleasantly surprised by her reply to my email. She agreed that God’s providence connected us, and she was grateful that He put us together.

Making disciples, bringing others to the Lord, helping our neighbor—all mean the same thing: share the love you have received from Jesus, and the Holy Spirit will provide the rest.

Prayer: Holy Spirit, empower me with every spiritual blessing I need to share my love for Jesus with whomever You place in my life. Amen.
