“Beware of false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing,
but underneath are ravenous wolves. By their fruits you will know them.” ~ Matthew 7:15-16
In today’s Gospel reading, Jesus warns of false prophets. We need to heed these words today in our society. Our world, especially social media, can be very confusing and misleading. So many promises of happiness and wealth, yet so many living in loneliness and despair. These false prophets do not introduce themselves as such, they come as wolves dressed as sheep. Eventually, they will be exposed for who they are.
I’m reminded of the lyrics to a song that has always touched my soul, it says “We are one in the Spirit, we are one in the Lord. And we pray that our unity will one day be restored. And they’ll know we are Christians by our Love.”
In living the following spiritual weekends—SEARCH, Cursillo, Kairos, and ACTS—I’ve witnessed people experience the love of Christ and be united in the Spirit and the Lord; however, we are sent out into the world to share our experience. There’s so much division in our society today. We pray that one day our unity will be restored, and it starts with each one of us.
The song continues, “we are called to walk with each other, walk hand in hand and together we will spread the news that God is in our land.” Only in knowing, loving, and trusting God, will we be able to effectively spread His love and mercy.
“We will work with each other, side by side and we’ll guard each man’s dignity and save each man’s pride.” By walking side by side and treating each other as the child of God that we are all, is the way that we can change the world around us.
“They will know we are Christians by our love.”
Prayer
Lord, may all who I met know I am a Christian by my love.
