Today’s Thought — First Antiphon: “O Wisdom”
O Wisdom of our God Most High, guiding creation with power and love: come to teach us the path of knowledge!
The “O” Antiophons, which are recited at Vespers the last seven days of Advent, can be traced back to the eighth century. Each of them takes up one of the names or attributes of Christ. The first antiphon recollects the prophetic anticipation of Wisdom, who “reaches mightily from one end of the earth to the other, and she orders all things well” (Wisdom 8:1).
Lord, help me to order my life, just as St. Teresa did, by the light of Wisdom.
Holy Spirit, Source of all Wisdom,
kindle in my heart the fire of your wisdom,
so that I might walk the path You have for me
with confidence, trust, and joy.
St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!
