Thursday of the First Week of Advent

December 1, 2016

Today’s Thought from Scripture:  Psalm 118:8-9

It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in man. It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to put confidence in princes.

Today’s reflection in Advent with St. Teresa of Calcutta features a touching story of an elderly woman in a London tenement who had no family to look after her, and who had been neglected by the rest of the world. In the loving ministrations of Mother Teresa’s sisters, she received a timely reminder of her own dignity.

When was the last time you felt forgotten or unappreciated? Today’s psalm reminds us that we can always take refuge in the Lord – and Mother Teresa is a timely reminder that even the small and thankless tasks entrusted to us can be an opportunity for joy.

“Do small things with great love,” the saints urge us.

Lord, help me to be faithful even in the small things,

So that one day you will say, “Well done!”

Give me courage, Lord, to act in love even when it’s hard.

St. Teresa of Calcutta, pray for us!
