Joseph was a righteous man. Matthew 1:19

“No Room In The Inn” Joseph F. Brickey

When the young couple arrived in Bethlehem, there was no place for them to stay.

Joseph must’ve felt helpless as Mary’s contractions began. A righteous man, God had chosen him to protect and provide for the Holy Family. But that night, the carpenter had little to give. Unlike modern fathers, he wasn’t carrying a visa card in his wallet and he couldn’t use his cell phone to call 911. There was no urgent care clinic.

It’s not hard to imagine Joseph praying: “Lord, I don’t know what to do.”

But that night, help came in miraculous ways.

The couple was offered shelter. Above their makeshift stable, angels began singing and a shimmering star appeared in the night sky. In all the beautiful simplicity, the Savior of the world was born.

Joseph reminds us that God can and will provide for us, sometimes in miraculous ways.

But in our modern day lives, we have so many material blessings that it’s easy to overlook God’s miracles. Most of us live in comfortable homes. Our cupboards hold nutritious food, and our closets are packed with nice clothes. Loved ones give us daily gifts of love and acceptance. There’s so much to be thankful for.

As Christmas draws near, try not to miss the miracles you experience each day.

In all the beautiful simplicity, see your Savior shimmering.
