Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. Jeremiah 29:12

As I took my morning jog, I watched several young teenagers walking to the bus stop. All of them were wearing silly hats. It was Hat Day at the local middle school, an annual celebration that takes place each autumn. One boy wore an overstuffed Minnesota Vikings hat with horns. He had long skinny legs and pigeon-toed feet, and his hat was three times bigger than his head. As he rushed to the bus stop, awkwardly, the hat began tilting to one side. I looked at him with the affection of a mother.

“He is so dear” I thought.

As women, we wear many hats, especially during these busy weeks of Advent. We are mothers, wives, home decorators, employees, cookie bakers, shoppers, card writers, and caregivers. Our schedules are non-stop and we barely have any time for ourselves. When we finally find the time to put on our prayer hat, it may feel like it doesn’t fit quite right.  It’s hard to slow down and have a quiet conversation with God.

What’s important to remember is that God honors our effort.

Even if our prayers are a bit tilted, God loves us dearly.
