You will find a colt tethered on which no one has ever sat. Mark 11:2
Jesus rode donkey into the Holy City. Though he was a king, his crown wasn’t visible to the crowds who laid palms before him. There were no finely dressed soldiers to escort our Savior, just a band of tunic-clad disciples. The holy procession was not a parade of power, but a show of humility.
During this Holy week, the humility of Jesus will be woven through every Gospel we hear. With reverence, we will remember Jesus breaking bread and washing feet. We will recall his thorny crown and the scourging he endured. In our minds eye, we will see him suffering on the cross.
Let us begin this week the same way that Jesus began the first Holy Week—with true humility of heart.
