Thursday February 19

“I have set before you life and death, the blessing and the curse. Choose life, then, that you and your descendants may live.” (Deuteronomy 30:19)

When I see a young mother with a handicapped child, I want to proclaim, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.”   But I always restrain myself.   Instead, I find myself praying for her.  Having raised a child with Downs syndrome, I am  grateful for the spiritual lessons my daughter imparted.   But I’ve learned that God reveals his grace, to special parents, in his own way and his own time.

This Lent, if you see a mom or dad with a special child, ask the Lord to bless their yes.

Then, take a moment to ask:  How am I saying yes to life?
