“Now on the first day of the week Mary Mag′dalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.” ~John 20:1
I have to think Mary Mag’dalene came to the tomb so early that Sunday morning because she couldn’t sleep. The pain, the grief, the uncertainty gnawed at her until all she could do was get up and go to Him, or at least towards Him, as close to Him as she could get. We’ve all had those nights that turn into mornings when we are gripped with anxiety and can’t settle. In those pre-dawn hours, where do we turn?
He Is the Way.
I don’t always have the wisdom or clear-sightedness to seek Christ. My mind spins and I get stuck on the pieces of whatever the situation is that feel out of my control, wishing things could be different, trying to find a way in which I can make them different. I desire peace and comfort, and I forget that these lie in the Lord.
He Is the Truth.
The reality is that most things in life are out of our control. We are called to surrender to God, to submit our will to His. Our Creator and Father, He knows what we—and those we love—need better than we do ourselves. Perhaps Mary was right to approach Him in darkness. The world she could touch and see would not provide what she needed. All she needed was only ever in Him.
He Is the Life.
Drawing near to Christ shows us who we are and whose we are. Mary took a risk in approaching the tomb before the sun rose, but what she sought was worth risking everything.
When she came to the tomb, she found it was not closed, but open. Though she didn’t yet understand what that meant, something had changed. Another possibility presented itself—something unbelievable, but very real.
In Christ, there is Life.
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, help me to approach You as Mary did, in humility and surrender, and keep my heart open to Your will being done in my life. Amen.
Call to Action:
Next time you find yourself worrying about a seemingly impossible situation, make an effort to give your concerns to Christ. Then redirect your attention to something productive and life-giving—planting a flower, baking for a friend, or checking in on someone who might be feeling lonely.

What an amazingly insightful reflection, thank you so much! Definitely hanging on to this one for my journal…
Blessings, Chris
Beautiful reflection. You reminded me of those early mornings when all I could do was pray. Then, with God by my side, I could go about my day.
