“But we impart a secret and hidden wisdom of God, which God decreed before the ages for our glorification.” ~ 1 Corinthians 2:7
Today, we hear of God’s mysterious wisdom, a wisdom not of this age, but of all ages from our God who is the Alpha and the Omega, the first and last, before time and yet here in our time. There is no other wisdom greater than God’s, and there is nothing greater to possess. In fact, Proverbs 16:16 tells us that “to get wisdom is better than gold: to get understanding is to be chosen rather than silver.”
An Understanding Heart
James says, “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives to all men generously and without reproaching, and it will be given him” (James 1:5). Solomon asked for wisdom—for an understanding heart—beyond everything in the world, beyond riches and a long life. This pleased God, who gave him wisdom above all others (see 1 Kings 3–4).
Like James and Solomon, we are to ask God for wisdom, to seek an understanding heart, to let God shower us with all we need to know to live a good life. We need to let the wisdom that comes from God guide us through our lives. Paul tells the Corinthians, and us, that wisdom is revealed through the Holy Spirit. So how do we obtain this wisdom? How does the Holy Spirit reveal it to us?
“The Wisdom of God”
Earlier in his letter, Paul tells the Corinthians that Christ is “the wisdom of God” (1 Corinthians 1:24). To find wisdom, we need to find Christ. We must seek Him, learn from Him, and emulate Him. To do that, we need to discover the Holy Spirit, the one of whom Luke said, “the Holy Spirit will teach you in that very hour what you ought to say” (Luke 12:12). It is through the Holy Spirit that we become better people, better followers of Christ, better servants of God, better communicators of God’s message.
That voice that some call your conscience, that feeling that lets you know what to do or say, that longing to know God and follow Him—those are the Holy Spirit working in you. Allow the Advocate to come into your mind and heart, to guide you, teach you, and help you with whatever you need. When you open yourself to that, you are inviting the Wisdom of God, Christ Himself, through the aid of the Holy Spirit, to come into your life and rule your heart.

Please join me in my personal daily prayer: “Dear Jesus, please send Your Holy Spirit upon me to be my thoughts, words, and actions, to guide me through my day, help me prioritize my tasks, and allow me to be a beacon of Your light for others. Amen.”
Call to Action:
Allow the Holy Spirit to work through you today, to send you the wisdom you need in order to do God’s will and have a day pleasing to God.

My daughter-in-law just told me she’s returning to her Protestant church. She became Catholic before she married my late son 13 years ago at the Easter Vigil. She said it was the Holy Spirit guiding her to this decision. I was her Sponsor. She appeared to be a devoted Catholic. Her husband, my son, has been gone six years. My heart is crushed and I’m afraid for her salvation. Can you give me any advice?
Hi Marie. My heart breaks for you, and I sympathize with your situation. I have two daughters who still profess to be Catholic but do not go to church.
I’m not an expert or a spiritual advisor, but my sense tells me that your daughter-in-law has returned to where she feels comfortable, perhaps surrounded by family and friends. There isn’t anything you can do but pray, for her heart needs to be led to return by the Holy Spirit. There is a prayer to St. Monica that I pray every day:
Dear St. Monica,
You endured many difficulties and hardships, but you never despaired or lost faith. With confidence, patience, perseverance, and profound trust, you prayed daily for the conversion of your husband, Patricius, and your beloved son who would become our great St. Augustine. Dearest St. Monica, please intercede in praying for [your intention] and that God intervenes on my behalf, for He is full of goodness, and His mercy endures forever. Amen.
I also ask St. Carlo to influence my children in returning to the Church and the sacraments.
