“…because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.” ~ Romans 5:5
Today’s Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity celebrates God in a mystery so profound that understanding is made known through revelation. God is our loving father, a powerful protector. Jesus, the son, demonstrates how to love God and each other. Together they are in union and communion through the Holy Spirit – a continuous flowing of love from, to, and between the father and son.
God Gives Us All of Himself
As our Creator, God made us in his own likeness and image. He offered mankind an eternal life in communion with him, loving and perfect. When that door closed through Adam and Eve’s disobedience, God loved us so much that throughout the Old Testament He walked with men, choosing, inviting, and empowering them with opportunities to reconcile. However, they still sinned; the original sin tainted their choices.
So God came to us through the Holy Spirit, taking human form as Jesus to be with and among men, teaching and guiding them personally how to love. As Jesus, he would deliver us from our sins, bring us peace, and fulfill God’s promise of eternal life with Him.
God’s Love Poured Out
At Pentecost, God pours out his love on us though the spirit of truth and wisdom. The Holy Spirit fills and unites us with the Father, through Jesus, and seals us with God’s grace. It guides us in God’s love and we are never alone because God is with us always, through Jesus and the Eucharist. The Holy Spirit is the word used to breathe life into the world that completes the mystery of God, uniting us to the purpose for which we were created.
Most Holy Trinity
God is not one or the other, but all three, as one true God: Father, Son and Spirit.
Through this Most Holy Trinity, God empowers us and guides us through peace and love.
St. Paul wrote to the Romans, we find hope that does not disappoint “…because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit which has been given to us.”
Each of our little God sighting moments are allowed by God through the Holy Spirit, who fills us with the gifts of God’s grace that we might also yield the fruits of the Spirit.
Prayer
God, thank you for your overabundance of love which is poured into our hearts through your Holy Spirit.
